Day 11 - Aeolian Islands (Salina)
Salina
The Virgona family originated in Salina so this trip was all about exploring the island in which we came from. From Amalfi we arrived in Messina (Sicily). From there we caught a ferry to Salina which took around 4 hours in the end. We didn't have any accommodation planned so we were just going to wing it when we arrived. The ferry trip was interesting. We started chatting to the crew who were just lovely. The language barrier is hard work but we're in the swing of it now. As a result of chatting to the Captain, we were able to tee up some accommodation with a family in Salina.

Maria and Giuseppe
The accommodation was courtesy of Maria and Giuseppe. 30,00 euro a night each and we couldn't believe what that got us. We had an entire house to ourselves complete with kitchen, bathroom, study and terrace. Just perfect and a nice change from the shoebox in Amalfi! They have both lived on the island their entire life. On the first night they welcomed us for dinner and it was a feast! Very yummy - fish, pasta, cheese and small goods, dessert and fruit.
